A View of the Deleware from Bordentown Hill by Charles B. Lawrence
Oil on canvas. Gift of Mrs. J.W. Maillard 1957.62
A native of Bordentown, New Jersey, artist Charles Lawrence traveled at least twice to Point Breeze, Joseph Bonaparte's estate. Bonaparte fled to America when his brother, Napoleon, fell from power in Europe in 1815. Point Breeze was considered an artistic center, drawing artists from far and wide to see Bonaparte's collection of Old Masters.
