        An open collection of letters and documents of Samuel L.

      Southard, a U. S.  Congressman, Secretary of the Navy under

      Presidents James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, and Governor

      of New Jersey. Included is correspondence with William Bain-

      bridge and Dr. William Paul Crillon Barton.

        Gift (in part) of Roger Butterfield, 1958.
