608.  ANDERSON FAMILY

           Papers, 1762-1950. 9 ft.

        Correspondence, legal papers, account books, cookbooks,

      dockets, public records, and genealogical materials pertaining

      chiefly to the Anderson family of Newton, Sussex County.

      Thomas Anderson was a lawyer and served during the Revolu-

      tionary War as Assistant Quartermaster for the Continental Army

      in Sussex County, 1780-81. His son William T. Anderson and

      grandson Thomas Anderson II were also lawyers. Of special in-

      terest are the following: (1) Newton voting registers, 1791-1827,

      records of town meetings, 1789- 1833, as well as of the Overseers of

      the Poor, 1770-1848; (2) book of procedures for the Sussex County

      Court of Oyer et Terminer, ca.  1800; (3) correspondence of

      William T. Anderson and Thomas Anderson II, 1846-50, while

      the latter was an undergraduate at the College of NewJersey (now

      Princeton University); (4) Civil War letters of Henry Ogden Ryer-

      son, a colonel in the 23rd NewJersey Volunteers; (5) Judge Henry

      T. Kays (1879-1958), " "Jokes and Anecdotes Relating to New

      Jersey Courts, Judges, and Lawyers.'' Included are letters and sign-

      ed documents of:
