         Made between June 9 and July 21, 1877 by a special detective

      from the Department of Justice to Anthony Q. Keasbey, U.S. Attorney in Newark. Brooks served as Keasbey's assistant in the in-

      vestigation of attempted frauds in relation to the estate of Joseph

      L. Lewis.

         Gift of Frederick C. Ritger, 1 967.
