Summary:

Genealogy research of S. Ward Righter on Alfred Vail (1807-1859), a co-inventor of the telegraph, and the Vail family.  Righter's research was used for his two genealogies, The Alfred Vail Records: Lines of Arthur Vail of Eastchester, New York and of John Vail, Quaker Preacher, of Woodbridge, New Jersey; and The Alfred Vail Records: Line of Samuel Vail of Westchester, New York, both of which are in the collections of the New Jersey Historical Society.
