Biographical Note

Jane Doney of 459 Belmont Avenue in Newark, New Jersey was a student in Grade 8A at the Bergen Street School in 1941. She graduated later that year on June 25th. The Bergen Street School, also known as the Bergen Street Grammar School, was built in the early twentieth century at 695 Bergen Street in Newark, New Jersey. The school offered classes in kindergarten through eighth grade with two sections for each grade: an A section and a B section. Because the school was located midway between Weequahic High School and South Side High School, the students who graduated from Bergen Street School moved onto either of those high schools as well as to Madison Junior High. Bergen Street School was renamed William Brown Academy on February 24, 1993.
