Biographical Note:

Private and later SP3 Warren Wheeler was a native of Madison, N.J. He was stationed in occupied Korea from 1955 to 1956, which meant that he was part of the peacetime occupation force partially comprised of U.S troops. Beginning as a civil war, the Korean War lasted from 1950 to 1953 with U.S. backed South Korea fighting against an invasion from Communist North Korea. The Korean War was the first armed confrontation of the Cold War and ended in 1953 with a cease-fire, but has never officially been ended with a treaty. After the war, American troops were stationed in South Korea as part of the still-functioning UN Command and remain there to the present day.
