The Hackensack and Passaic River Bridges

[see large picture]

The engineering firm of Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff (now HNTB) oversaw construction of the northern section of the Turnpike (and has served the Authority as consulting engineers to the current day), including the enormously challenging job of building the Hackensack River Bridge. This and the following two photographs are part of a series taken to document the firm's work on the span. According to the caption on this particular image, what you see is a "view looking north from south abutment station 625 showing progress on concrete deck in spans S-22, S-21 and S-20."
