As this and the next two images suggest, the New Jersey Turnpike tollbooth was perhaps the most prevalent image on Turnpike-related souvenirs, so much that it became emblematic of the road. While New Jersey actually had toll roads in the early nineteenth century, to1950s Americans the toll road was still largely new and unprecedented. |
