 Interchanges (places of entry and exit—most people call them "exits") were celebrated on souvenirs in the same way tollbooths were—as novel quasi-attractions. This plate, made by California's Vernon Kilns expressly for Howard Johnson's New Jersey Turnpike gift shops, chronicles along its rim the whole Turnpike system, including each of the earliest interchanges.
