Traffic, Traffic, and More Traffic

Cities Service produced "The New Jersey Turnpike" just after the road opened. It makes the "Turnpike achievement" look especially impressive by contrasting it with scenes of massive traffic jams on (other) choked roads.

Perhaps Cities Service was so laudatory because the Turnpike Authority was its employer (the company held a concession for gasoline and repair services with the Authority). Nevertheless, the movie's perspective ties firmly into prevailing notions about cars, roads, and American progress.
