Given that the Turnpike cuts through countryside and meadowlands filled with wildlife, it’s not surprising that animals and birds occasionally find their way onto the superhighway—sometimes with tragic results. However, there are some positive stories of co-existence—like the day traffic on the nation’s busiest limited access toll road ground to a halt when a family of ducks decided to go for a walk. Hear how toll collector Ronald “Rocky” Sorrentino (who worked for the Turnpike from 1956 to 1987) handled the emergency.
